attica department stores is currently in search of a skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to lead and oversee accounting operations at our central offices in Athens.
Role Purpose: The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and managing the daily execution of accounting operations, ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This role involves leading the accounting team, supervising financial reporting, managing tax obligations, and ensuring compliance with IFRS standards and corporate policies. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in financial planning, audits, and process improvements, contributing to the overall financial health of the company. This role reports to the Head of Accounting.
Key accountabilities:
- Overseeing and managing the organization, coordination, supervision, and daily execution of accounting operations.
- Leading, training, and managing the accounting team to ensure efficiency and compliance with financial policies.
- Ensuring accuracy and compliance in data transmission to electronic accounting systems (myData).
- Supervising the fixed asset register and overseeing monthly depreciation processes.
- Managing and participating in store cash reconciliations, implementing corrective entries as necessary.
- Conducting in-depth financial analyses and generating strategic reports.
- Overseeing cash flow monitoring and ensuring the accurate processing of e-shop refunds (verification, customer credits).
- Providing financial insights and reports to key business partners and stakeholders.
- Maintaining professional communication with regulatory authorities, banks suppliers, and customers.
- Ensuring compliance with IFRS16 standards and conducting necessary reconciliations.
- Leading periodic financial closings (monthly, quarterly, and annual) and contributing to the preparation of financial statements for submission to the Finance Directorate.
- Facilitating audits by providing required financial information and supporting tax and compliance reporting processes.
- Managing all monthly and annual tax obligations (VAT, VIES, INTRASTAT, withholding taxes, etc.) with accuracy and compliance.
- Ensuring adherence to accounting standards and corporate financial policies while maintaining regulatory compliance and internal deadlines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the organization, including accounting departments and store cash offices, to enhance financial operations.
- Driving continuous improvements in financial systems, processes, and reporting mechanisms.
- Overseeing cash management forecasting in SAP, planning, and executing payment processes through automated SAP-driven proposals.
Skills/Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Accounting, or Finance.
- Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in the Retail or FMCG sector.
- A' Class Accountant License from the Economic Chamber of Greece (OEE) will be considered a valuable asset.
- Demonstrated experience in SAP/ERP systems with a strong proficiency in financial applications is crucial.
- Comprehensive knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Advanced Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
- Fluency in English, with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to manage and analyze large volumes of financial data efficiently.
- Strong knowledge of bookkeeping, accounting principles, practices, standards, legislation, and regulations.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Leadership capabilities with the ability to supervise and mentor teams effectively.
