About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)
The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.
The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.
About the Position
The Accounts and Travel Officer is responsible for the provision of financial processing, reporting and travel coordination services to the Australian Embassy, Athens.
The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Provide high quality, responsive and efficient accounts services, including payment processing and debt management.
• Support the Corporate Services Manager to manage the Embassy’s financial resources, including in the preparation and monitoring of budgets, and preparing regular financial reporting.
• Manage travel processing for staff including booking coordination, travel agent liaison, and calculation and payment of travel allowances.
• Provide advice to Embassy staff on reimbursements and financial entitlements in accordance with DFAT policies.
• Liaise with the Finance Hub in London on financial processes undertaken by the Hub.
• Provide back-up IT duties following completion of necessary training.
Qualifications/Experience
• Experience in financial management including budget reporting and procurement.
• Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office software applications.
• Sound written and oral communication skills in English and Greek.
• Ability to prioritise and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong liaison skills.
• Accounting qualifications are desirable.
Selection Criteria
In your written statements, you must include relevant high-level examples from your experience that support your claims against the role. The word limit is strictly 250 words per response. The panel will not assess responses which exceed the word limit.
A. Experience working in an administration role, including financial processes, and budgeting, with internal and external customers.
B. Ability to exercise good judgement when responding to enquiries and maintaining records, ensuring sensitive information is handled with discretion.
C. Strong organisational skills and ability to achieve results whilst working to tight deadlines and managing competing priorities.
D. High level communication skills in English and Greek and the ability to work productively in a small team.
E. Attention to detail, and ability to analyse and interpret information, including financial data.
