The company offers the opportunity to those who wish to express interest in the position of “Superintendent Geotechnical and Backfill”, for its premises in Chalkidiki. The position will report to the Technical Services Manager of the Technical Services – Engineering department, based in Olympias.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provides operational, subject matter expertise with respect to the safe and efficient operations related to backfill and ground support processes.
- Supervision and oversight of the Olympias geotechnical and backfill department including all related administrative work.
- Oversee coordination between process plant, paste plant, mine planning engineers, and mining operations to review and implement backfill schedules that align with production requirements.
- Monitor and improve paste system construction,filling operations, amd geotechnical installations ensuring qualitative and quantitative targets are met in compliance with company policies and safety standards.
- Ensure timely and safe construction of pastefill reticulation systems, barricades, and other infrastructure, drafting scopes of work for necessary capital projects.
- Prepare and update long-term paste reticulation plans, including borehole locations, pipelines, monitoring instruments, and pipe support standards.
- Design and oversee backfill operations, including stope and drift fill notes, monitoring backfill quality, QA/QC data, and ensuring optimal strength and cement consumption.
- Develop and manage the annual backfill and geotechnical budgets, costing models, and safe operating procedures, while conducting regular inspections and updates for paste and geotechnical systems.
- Coordinate and supervise contracts for underground paste drilling projects, liaising with commercial teams and suppliers for backfill and ground support materials.
- Support geotechnical engineering tasks, including stability assessments, ground support designs, incident investigations, and rehabilitation plans.
- Develop and manage KPIs for geotechnical and paste operations, ensure compliance with standards, and mentor junior engineers while contributing to technical meetings and reporting.
Requirements:
- Degree in Mining Engineering or similar.
- Master’s Degree in Rock Mechanics (desirable).
- 7+ years of experience in underground hard rock mining drift & fill operations.
- Communication in English (verbal & written), and Greek (preferable).
- Basic knowledge of Deswik software and AutoCAD 2D.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite.
- Prior knowledge in Geotechnical and Backfill.
- Strong technical, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Project management, time management, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and the ability to handle multiple priorities while delivering consistent results in a fast-paced environment.
