Job Description:
A position for an Engineer with a M.Sc. to work on the “Development of portable bio-medical devices to perform diagnostic tests at the point-of-care”. The work involves the design of novel platforms to monitor the outcome of a diagnostic test using colour indicators (colorimetric assay) or a biosensor (acoustic/electrochemical) or a visual observation (lateral flow strip reader). Results will be recorded via a smart phone or tablet and transferred to a decision-making centre.
The project and the lab:
The successful applicant will join the Biosensors lab in IMBB-FORTH in Crete (https://www.gizeligroup.eu/) a multidisciplinary group consisting of biologists, chemists, engineers, bio-physicists and material scientists. The new member will be involved in innovation-driven research leading to EU-certified solutions for diagnostics. In addition, she/he will be encouraged to supervise undergraduate and/or master students, participate in technology transfer events, contribute towards the broad dissemination of science and develop skills related to presentations, grant-applications and reports writing.
Required qualifications:
- BSc on engineering (electrical, chemical, mechanical or related)
- MSc on engineering (electrical, chemical, mechanical or related)
- Ability to start within 2-3 months
- Excellent oral and written skills in English language
Desired qualifications/requirements:
- Previous experience on biomedical engineering
- Previous experience on the design of diagnostic or relevant platforms
- Previous experience on the development of mobile apps
- Scientific publications in the above fields
